The Most Expensive Homes In Los Angeles
We know LA is all about luxury and flash. And that shows more and more in the fabulous real estate all around the city. Whether these homes are owned by celebrities or men and women who are just fabulously wealthy, there is no doubt about it – LA has some amazing, and very expensive homes. Here are just a few of our favorites.
THE MOST EXPENSIVE HOUSE IN THE UNITED STATES
Yes, we have said it. The most expensive house in the United States is located right here in Los Angeles. Bel Air to be exact. And we can see why it has a $250 million dollar (yes, you read that right) price tag. The home is 38,000 square feet and boasts 12 bedrooms and 21 bathrooms. It took over 300 people to build over 4 years. The floating stair case in the dining room alone has a two-million dollar price tag. And it doesn’t stop there. Do you like candy? There is a dedicated candy room in the house. Movies? You can’t go wrong in the 40 seat James Bond movie theater stocked with 7,000 movies. You can practice your bowling skills in the 4 lane bowling alley or relax in the spa area. You and your friends can also have a great pool party beside the 85 foot long infinity pool in the backyard. If you love great art, you will enjoy the helicopter from the popular 80’s show Airwolf that is installed on the property. Or the original artwork all over the house. Clearly this is an amazing house – and one for the record books as it is known as the most expensive house in the United States – to date. Wonder what the builder will think up next!
Another one of our favorites is the former home of Aaron, Candy and Tori Spelling. Formerly known as the Spelling Manor, now it is just The Manor, the home was sold by Candy in 2011 for $85 million to a 22 year old Formula One heiress. Last year, it went back on the market for $200. That is quite the investment! At over 56,000 square feet, it is one of the largest homes in California. It has 123 rooms, tennis courts, a pool and plenty of space to lounge around in. The property has major history as well. It originally belonged to Bing Crosby. The Spellings bought it in 1988 and bulldozed it and created the massive mansion it is known as today. The new owners changed it once again and made it theirs. Just goes to show that in LA – not only faces get updates!
THE PLAYBOY MANSION
This is probably one of the most iconic homes in Los Angeles and the one that many people want to visit. Known for it’s lavish parties and famous residents, the mansion is almost 22,000 square feet and is a “Gothic Style” tudor home. It sits on over 5 acres and has 22 rooms. It has a wine cellar, a screening room with built-in pipe organ, a game room, three zoo/aviary buildings, a tennis/basketball court, a waterfall and a swimming pool area (including a patio and barbecue area, a grotto, a basement gym with sauna below the bathhouse). Landscaping includes a large koi pond with artificial stream, a small citrus orchard and two well-established forests of tree ferns and redwoods. Part of the mansion houses the Playboy Editorial offices. Talk about a work/life balance and it can all be yours for $200 million.
DAVID GEFFEN’S CARBON BEACH MANSION
Last year, David Geffen’s mansion in Malibu (on what is known as “Billionaire’s Beach” ) sold for close to $100 million. Although you are probably bummed you missed out on this house, it doesn’t mean that we don’t love it. This one is a behemoth. Built on FOUR Malibu lots that he acquired over several years. He cut a deal with the California Coastal Commission to allow him to build such a large estate that would block access to the public beach — he would build a walkway along the property for public access. Only problem is he padlocked the gate. So for 20 years the Coastal Commission litigated the matter before Geffen finally relented and removed the lock.
The house has 2 swimming pools and a 9-car garage on its 285 feet of beach front property.
These tremendous homes are just the tip of the iceberg for LA. But whether you are laying your head on a beachfront property or in your cozy house in a suburb… we can all agree, there is no place like home.

The tour was a lot of fun and he even took us to less well known spots for some great photo ops! Definitely recommend doing and would absolutely do another tour with these guys when next back in LA!

Our tour was AMAZING. This is one of the most professional companies I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

- “LOOK NO FURTHER”
I can recall doing a bus tour of LA a number of years ago, and that tour did not remotely compare to what we experienced with our number one guide Rivers. Our family of four, including two boys aged 13 and 10, had the best day possible.

- “Worth the Splurge”
Eight hours seems like a lot of time, but the day just flew by. It was so fun and interesting. I would do this again with no regrets.
