In-N-Out

a sign on the side of a road

in-n-out-1

When choosing one of our many tour options that has a lunch stop incorporated into it, many of our clients love going to the Farmers Market. However, we also get A LOT of requests for a California burger institution known as In-N-Out.

Opened in 1948 by Harry and Esther Snyder, In-N-Out was the first drive-thru hamburger stand in California. This was a new idea since American’s were used to car-hops bringing them their food. But it caught on quickly as you can see today. The Snyder’s concept was simple – fresh, high quality food served in a clean, sparkling environment. Along with that, friendly customer service. And all of that is still the way it was almost 70 years ago. One of the reasons this holds true is that the company is still owned by the Snyder family. They never franchised the product. This way they can control how everything is made and served. It is also known as a great company to work for. Always paying their employees who work in the restaurants more than minimum wage. And this quality is seen at any In-N-Out that you eat at. The employees are friendly, the food second-to-none and the restaurant always clean.

Now… let’s talk about the food. It is no wonder that famed chefs Gordon Ramsay, Thomas Keller, Anthony Bourdain and Mario Batali love this restaurant. Even Julia Child… yes, THE Julia Child… was quoted saying that she knew the location of every In-N-Out between San Francisco and Santa Barbara. Now that is saying something. But the fact is the food is simple, but it is done the right way. The menu is small – single burger, double double, fries, drinks and milkshakes. But if you know a thing or two about In-N-Out (and we do!) then you might want to order off of their “secret menu”. This includes adding things like grilled onions and chiles to your burger. Ordering your burger “Animal Style” or getting a 3×3 (3 patties and 3 slices of cheese) or a 4×4 (yup, you guessed it, 4 patties and 4 slices of cheese). You can also order a grilled cheese or you can even order a “Flying Dutchman” (2 meat patties and 2 slices of cheese by itself).

During lunch hour or at dinnertime, you will likely see a line out to the street of people waiting to get their fresh burger on a grilled bun. You might question why you are waiting when you can see so much more of Los Angeles whilst waiting for a burger. But once you have it, you will understand why. And, besides, that is why you are on tour with us. We will take care of the details and you get to enjoy all LA has to offer.
