Filming Locations in Malibu

Malibu is known for its sweeping beaches, beautiful views, million dollar properties and great surfing. As we shared in our Outdoor Filming Locations blog last week, it is also a popular place to film scenes from some of our favorite movies, TV shows, commercials and music videos.

Filming in Malibu is very popular given the climate as well as the various beach and mountain areas it has to offer. Surfrider Beach, one of the best surfing spots in Southern California, was actually made famous by “Gidget” and Point Dume will forever be recognized from the final scene of “Planet of the Apes”. Plus, the now iconic “Baywatch” was filmed along the beaches of Malibu along with pretty much every surfer movie from the 1960’s. Let’s not forget about reality TV shows either… both “Millionaire Listing” AND many of the “Bachelor” houses are filmed in Malibu. If you head up into Malibu Creek State Park, you will find great hiking and some famous filming locations, like the ambulance hulk from “M*A*S*H”

Now, let’s talk about one of our favorite filming locations in Malibu… Paradise Cove. First of all, only Malibu would have a trailer park where some of the homes are worth over 1 million dollars. And when we say “trailer park” , we mean both trailers and some of the most deluxe mobile homes you have ever seen. All located on a stretch of beach known as “Paradise Cove”, where tourists from all over come to hang out at the great beach and eat at the yummy restaurant where you can dine directly on the beach. You would recognize Paradise Cove from “American Pie 2”, “Lethal Weapon 4”, “The Rockford Files”, “Monster-in-law”, “X-Men” and “The House of Sand and Fog”. And lets not forget the music scene at Paradise Cove. The Beach Boys “Surfin Safari” album cover was shot at Paradise Cove and Britney Spears “Sometimes” video was shot there as well.

There is even more you can discover in Malibu such as a stretch of sand known as “Billionaire’s Beach” where some famous celebrities, directors and movie producers live. There is also great shopping as well as some great beachside restaurants. While there, check out the Malibu Country Mart where you will likely run into a celebrity or two. In fact, everywhere you go in Malibu you might spot a celebrity during the summer as it is one of their favorite playgrounds during vacation.
