Our Favorite Shopping in L.A.

While in Los Angeles, you will find a ton of cool places to shop. From stores that have themes to ones that are celebrity owned and everything in between, LA is a veritable smorgasbord of of great shopping. Here are 5 of our favorite places to go pick up a few items in L.A.

Whimsic Alley

If you or your loved ones love Harry Potter, Doctor Who & Game of Thrones, then Whimisc Alley is the place to be.  It’s possible that you may not be getting on King’s Cross Station Platform 9 ¾ headed to Hogsmeade Station any time soon, but you can still enter the world of Harry Potter at this very unique and special store. While there, you can pick up an authentic wizarding school uniform, hat and wand – all of them professional quality. They have robes, ties, sweaters, even Quidditch gear available in the appropriate House colors and in youth and adult sizes.  Additionally, there are several themed boutiques inside the store that feature a variety of merchandise, including books, jewelry, gift items and movie tie in products. Named best party place in LA  by LA Parent, Whimsic Alley also features  a Hogwarts style great hall that you can use for parties, like Whimsic’s great murder mystery dinners and not so formal teas.  Definitely a must see in LA.

It’s A Wrap

If you love movie and TV memorabilia or want to own the same clothing seen in or used for TV and movie shows then It’s A Wrap will be perfect for you.  Located in Burbank, It’s A Wrap picks up the clothes from wardrobe departments and brings them to the public. The clothes in the shop hang on racks that have signs bearing the name of the film the clothes were in or sometimes even the celebrity who wore them.  The best part is that the items they sell there are made by high end designers and because it is a consignment store you can get a great deal along with a fun story about your new outfit.  So now you can look like a star while hanging out in Hollywood – talk about playing the part!

The Grove

The Grove opened in 2002 to much fanfare as a different type of shopping experience. It is designed to be like a charming small town square — think Disneyland shopping mall. Sinatra plays over the loudspeakers as you stroll down what feels like Main Street in front of Banana Republic, Ugg, Zara, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Girl, Apple, and more. There are a few fine restaurants including Fat Cow owned by Gordon Ramsey. It features a Bellagio-in-Vegas style water fountain show set to music (much, much smaller, of course) and was for years the home of Access Hollywood. You could take a break from your shopping and watch Mario Lopez and Maria Menounos interview all kinds of celebrities right there in the mall.Nowadays you have to just hope for a random celebrity sighting — which isn’t unusual. We’ve seen Alessandra Ambrosio, Minnie Driver, and David Beckham shopping here. So keep your eyes peeled — you just may get that celeb sighting.

3rd Street Promenade

When our clients on our Los Angeles tours ask us where to spend some extra time on their other days in L.A., we often tell them to head to the Third Street Promenade. It’s especially great if you have teens in your group as it will definitely keep them happy — there are performers, movie theaters, major retailers, ice cream — you can’t go wrong here. Plus it’s a short walk to the Santa Monica Pier and the beach, so it’s a no-brainer for an all-day foray into Santa Monica.
It’s also very pedestrian-friendly — since the 1960s the three blocks of the Promenade have been closed to auto traffic, so its wide walking area is open to wander in a dream state without fear of L.A. traffic running you down.

DASH

If you are a big fan of the Kardashians, then you will love shopping at their store in West Hollywood. With a variety of designer and contemporary clothing, this is the perfect shopping stop while you are in Los Angeles. DASH first opened in 2006 and has since opened in two additional locations. You can buy picks from Kourteney, Kim and Khloe and more. Plus the store has put together an awesome playlist that you can listen to while shopping OR if you want more, go to their web site to listen. And you never know, you may run into on of the owners while you are there. Even if you don’t, you can take a little piece of your favorite reality TV family home with you.
