5 Day Itinerary for Young Families Vacationing in Los Angeles
When you are getting ready to travel to Los Angeles, you have a lot to consider. And this is even before you pack. When going on vacation, it is always best to create a fun itinerary for each day so you can get the most out of the city. This is especially important if you are traveling with young children. So we have created a fun, 5 day itinerary for families with young children who are traveling to Los Angeles. If you are here for less time, you can mix and match some of these ideas to create a memorable experience of L.A .for you and your family.
Disneyland
If you have kids, then Disneyland is a must stop on any vacation to the L.A. About an hour and a half outside of the city in Anaheim, Disneyland is a great day trip for families. Walt Disney’s original park, Disneyland opened in 1955. This year, they are celebrating their 60th anniversary and they are pulling out all of the stops for this diamond themed celebration (you can even win diamonds if you are lucky!). From Toon Town to the tea cups to Mr. Toads wild ride, visiting Disneyland is truly a magical place for kids. You can also hop over to California Adventure where they have awesome rides and great food options. Your little ones will never forget it and it is a fantastic kick off to a family vacation.

The Beach
With miles of coastline, Los Angeles has great beaches and taking time for a beach day while here is always an enjoyable experience. We have so many different beaches and options for families. From Family Friendly Beaches to water activities there are so many memories you can make by visiting one of our beaches. If you want to keep the sand out of your bathing suit and still enjoy the beach views, another great place for families to visit is the Santa Monica pier. While there, you can take a spin on the solar powered Ferris Wheel at Pacific Amusement Park or enjoy an ice cream after riding the carousel originally built in the 1920’s.
Universal Studios
Part movie theme park, part movie history, Universal Studios is a fun place to take the whole family. They have movie themed rides such as Jurrassic Park : The Ride, Revenge of the Mummy, Transformers: The Ride and the Universal Experience where you can see all of the costumes and props from the last 100 years. If rides aren’t your thing, you can still experience some awesome 3D movies, Stunt Shows and live shows. One of Universals greatest attractions is the tram ride that shows visitors some of the most famous studio sets in the world today including Psycho, War of the Worlds, Back to the Future, The Sting, The Great Outdoors and Desperate Housewives Wisteria Lane to name a few. While on the tram tour, park guests can also experience an 8.3 magnitude earthquake, a flash flood AND a visit from Jaws.
When you are filled up on thrill rides and sand castles and you have toured Hollywood and checked out the stars, take some time to visit The California Science Center, Natural History Museum, The Peterson Automotive Museum, The Getty Museum or The La Brea Tar Pits. Fun and affordable, both parents and kids will enjoy this different kind of thrill ride through time and space.
At the California Science center, you can view The Space Shuttle Endeavour up close and see the images and artifacts associated with this incredible space shuttle. You can also check out The World of Life and examine how people, plants, animals and the tiniest living cells all perform the same life processes to survive. And don’t even get us started on the jets! At the Natural History Museum, the kids will love the dinosaur encounter where realistic T. Rex and Triceratops large-scale puppets capture the imaginations of audiences in performances each week. Plus, there are over 300 real fossils and 20 complete skeletons, including three Tyrannosaurus Rex showing them at different life stages. If you like to go like “Greased Lightning” or glide through the night like “Batman” or just want to see these famous movie cars in person, then The Petersen Automotive Museum is the place to go. Focusing on the automobile and its impact on American life, this 300,000 square foot facility has over 150 rare and classic cars, trucks and motorcycles. Exhibiting the history of aviation, specifically aviation history in Southern California, The Museum of Flying in Santa Monica is a great way to experience what flight is all about. The Museum exhibits the history of aviation, focusing on aviation history in Southern California and features nearly 2 dozen aircraft chronicling the beginning of flight including a replica of the Wright Brothers flyer. Finally, the La Brea Tar Pits area fun place for the family, where the kids can stomp around and check out the pre-historic animals that will forever be preserved in the asphalt.
