5 Family Fun Activities for Winter Break

The holidays are a blast, aren’t they? Celebrating with family and friends. Seeing loved ones that you haven’t seen for a while. Cheer spread everywhere. And the kids are out of school for 1 -2 weeks… or more (insert doom music here). So what do you do when you wake up the day after Thanksgiving or Christmas and your kids are already bored before you have even poured your first cup of coffee? Not to worry. There are a TON of fun activities for kids in and around Los Angeles. From our Teens & Tweeners tour to some amazing museums and parks, LA has a lot to offer you and your family. Fun guaranteed. Some of our favorites include:

La Brea Tar Pits

Do you have kids who love pre-historic animals? Then you have come to the right place. The tar pits are natural asphalt which has seeped from under the ground for tens of thousands of years, trapping animals and preserving their bones. You can walk around the tar pits and check out the George Page Museum which is dedicated to researching the tar pits and displaying specimens from the animals that died there. The museum is full of exhibits including a full skeleton of a giant Colombian Mammoth. There are also still pools of tar that the kids can see live and up close.

Museum of Flying

Exhibiting the history of aviation, specifically aviation history in Southern California, The Museum of Flying in Santa Monica is a great way to experience what flight is all about. The Museum exhibits the history of aviation, focusing on aviation history in Southern California. The museum features nearly 2 dozen aircraft chronicling the beginning of flight including a replica Wright Flyer. You will also be able to check out an awesome collection of aviation art, artifacts and items from famous aviators. And if you are really adventurous, you can hop in the flight simulator and barrel through the sky like a real pilot.

KidSpace Museum

Pasadena is a great place to visit with the family. If you have small kids, you should definitely make a stop at KidSpace Museum. Located next to the Rose Bowl, KidSpace is exhibits, programs and activities that encourage a child’s growth and development through explorations of the environment, investigations in science, and artistic forms of expression that captivate the inquisitive and growing minds of children. The great thing about KidSpace is that it is totally interactive. Your kids can crawl through an ant hole, climb over a safari jeep, explore a construction site and so much more.

Aquarium of the Pacific

Take a day trip and head over to Long Beach and check out The Aquarium of the Pacific. Displaying more than 11,000 animals in more than 50 exhibits, the aquarium offers educational programs for people of all ages from hands-on activities to lectures by leading scientists. Besides all of the amazing and captivating displays indoors, the awesome interactive displays outdoors are a kid favorite. There is also a play area and story time that help make it an unforgettable day.

Zimmer Children’s Museum

A non-profit cultural institution located on Museum Row in Los Angeles, and features hands-on exhibits for children to explore big ideas in creative and inspiring settings. With the  “We All Play Initiative,” kids of all economic backgrounds can grow and learn alongside their peers through art experiences, culturally-based programs, and play-based learning. You can touch all of the displays and truly be a part of the museum experience. Plus, there is a ball pit, waterways, blocks & bricks, and imagination stations that the kids will truly enjoy. They will never want to leave.

You can have a fantastic winter vacation and make a ton of family memories with all of the great things to do and see in Los Angeles with your kids.

  • “Don’t Hesitate….Just Do It!!”

The tour was a lot of fun and he even took us to less well known spots for some great photo ops! Definitely recommend doing and would absolutely do another tour with these guys when next back in LA!

  • “Perfect fit for our family!”

Our tour was AMAZING. This is one of the most professional companies I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

  • “LOOK NO FURTHER”

I can recall doing a bus tour of LA a number of years ago, and that tour did not remotely compare to what we experienced with our number one guide Rivers. Our family of four, including two boys aged 13 and 10, had the best day possible.

  • “Worth the Splurge”

Eight hours seems like a lot of time, but the day just flew by. It was so fun and interesting. I would do this again with no regrets.

    The Kozars, Lethbridge, Canada

  • “Great family day”
